St. Luke's Stories by FRC Director Angela Bryan

Rosemary has lived in West Nashville for 43 years, living in the same house since 1967.  She worked for 46 years at a factory before retiring.  At age 82, she still lives by herself, although her brother and his wife check in on her frequently and help with household duties and transportation.  A St. Luke's volunteer also befriended her in 2008 and still visits her weekly.

About a year ago, Rosemary fell and suffered some internal bleeding causing pain and disorientation.  Since she had already broken both hips, an arm and her leg, we feared we would not see her in her home again.  After staying in rehabilitation for three months, she finally regained her balance and confidence to come home.

She once again looks forward to the daily meals and especially the visits she gets through Mobile Meals.  She always asks volunteers to stay and talk with her.  St. Luke's has referred her to the Vanderbilt Coalition for Healthy Agin for further companionship.  A referral was also made to West Nashville Community Development Partnership to have a wheelchair ramp built on her home to help her get out more often.

Each month she sends a donation to St. Luke's despite only making a little more than $1000 each month.  With her strong sense of pride, she insists on remaining in her home for as long as possible.  St. Luke's plans to continue to support her in her home for as long as it is possible.
