The Red Door

Donations of $10,000 and above

Caritas: Caritas is the Latin word for charity or self-giving love, which is the guiding virtue for the work of St. Luke’s on behalf of our neighbors. In his first letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul commented, “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Donations of $5,000 - $9,999
Patron Saints: St. Luke the Evangelist is the patron saint of our community house. Author of the Gospel that bears his name and the Acts of the Apostles, St. Luke was a physician and friend of St. Paul. St. Luke’s Gospel shows a particular concern for the poor and disadvantaged that is carried on through the work that you help support as a patron of our organization.

Donations of $2,500 - $4,999

Anne Stevens Legacy Society:  Anne Stevens was executive director of St. Luke’s from 1982 to 1997.  An imaginative leader and a dedicated servant to others, Anne worked tirelessly for the good of the people of West Nashville.  Her life continues to inspire our work today.

Donations of $1,000 - $2,499
Red Door Society: The red door has been a distinctive feature of St. Luke’s for many years. Its warm, inviting color welcomes our neighbors. In the nineteenth century when the Oxford Movement brought changes to the Church of England and the Episcopal Church, adherents of the movement often painted their Church doors red to show their support. As well as putting an emphasis on the liturgy, the Oxford Movement renewed the Church’s commitment to the poor in London. Our red door carries on that tradition today.
Donations of $500 - $999
Sustainer Fellowship: The symbol shows a pair of hands holding up St. Luke’s Community House. In Medieval and Byzantine art, churches were often depicted as being held in the hands of the saints after whom they were named. When you give to St. Luke’s, you join your hands to many others in providing the support we need to serve our neighbors.
Donations of $100 - $499
Named for our executive director from 1970 to 1981, the Fred D. Rogers Legacy Society honors a leader who said, “St. Luke’s goal is to live up to the second greatest commandment ‘to love thy neighbor as thyself.’ In this we need your help.”
Donations up to $99
Friends of St. Luke’s. The winged bull is a symbol of Saint Luke the Evangelist, our patron saint. The bull, which was often sacrificed in ancient religions, signifies the strength and the self-giving that characterize the friends of our community house.
